Broken driveshaft ends Wenger's night in Hoosier Dirt Shootout opener
McKay Wenger made the trek to Kokomo Speedway (Kokomo, Ind.) on Friday evening for the for the two-day Hoosier Dirt Shootout. Drawing 32 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series entries for the event in place of the Prairie Dirt Classic, Wenger registered the second fastest lap in his time trial group behind Darrell Lanigan, which positioned him second on the starting grid for the 25-lap preliminary feature. With $2,500 on the line, McKay slipped outside the Top 5 early but began rallying late on the high-side before a broken J-bar took out his driveshaft and transmission. (Josh James Artwork)
With his early exit in his qualifying feature on Friday setting him on the tail of his B-Main on Saturday evening, Wenger needed a sixth place finish or better to make the $25,000-to-win A-Main. After Mother Nature botched the attempt to run the consolation event on Saturday, continued rain overnight and on Sunday morning forced officials to postpone the remainder of the program to a later date.
